How do I keep the neighbors cats away from my wild bird feeders?
How do I keep the neighbors cats away from my wild birds that I feed? They are catching them, tearing them apart and leaving them lay about....this must stop....but how? I spoke to the neighbors and they don't care, they say it is what cats do.....As much as I want to kill them, I can't....as that would be wrong in my opinion....so what can I do to make them not come back?
Why do wild bird feeders?
I have ten and even though I haven t bought them cheap, they still rust in the rain. I leave two open now so that the squirrels can get monkey nuts out. Also I throw a lot seed, fat balls and suet feed away as it is either getting congealed or sprouting because of the weather.I do have halve of them plastic and where I live there is no wild life other than squirrels, cats and occasionally the odd rat which is soon dispoded of by the rat catchers. I also have them high up and are supposed? to be water proof but they still rust, and I still throw a lot of food away because of the weather.
Looking for interesting solutions to keeping pests like squirrels (not harmful) out of wild bird feeders?
I am from Ontario, Canada where squirrels, starlings and blackbirds abound in some areas, lol. I have read many solutions mostly from North Americans who feed wild birds. I would also love to hear from others around the world, if you have had problems with your feeders and how you solved it.Some of the solutions I would like to include on a new page I am posting to my web site.the scoop on wild birds and feeders.com
What is the best type of wild bird feeder for an apartment?
I live on the bottom floor, I can step off my back porch on to a little grassy area that I call my backyard that slopes down slightly and looks out into the woods. I also live on the end of the building so I have the entire left side of my building as my grassy " backyard" I got real lucky on my apartment positioning. My office window that faces the " yard" and I was thinking of putting a feeder on the window so I can see the birds as I work, but then I read an article about how that was the number one death of wild birds, so I'm not so sure I want to do that anymore. I could put a poll up but I don't cut the grass and I'm not sure what would happen to it. I do have a covered porch but I can't see it all that well from my office window.Does anyone have any ideas as to where I can put a bird feeder? Any suggestions will help.. Any pictures of feeders or links to any websites would also be very helpful Here are 2 window feeders I found and liked . . . would they be dangerous?duncraft.com Window Platform Feeder P4268C37.aspx?UserID 12299352& SessionID mJTdL7nmugdoIGpfoo5Obirdsanctum.com product OP 101
Problem with tube type wild bird feeder?
How can I get the feed to keep going down into the cups? The birds peck it out, but it never goes back into the feeder cup. I have to go out and use a wire hook i made up to get it back in the cups so the birds can reach it again. It is a 4 port, about 18 inches tall, the cups are closer to the bottom, so yo'd think the weight would push the seed down into the cups. Very frustrating. It is a plastic tube maybe 1.5 inches wide, and I use black oil sunflower seed not the shelled kind sminthian1980 It is the " convertible" type, you can rotate the cup and it changes into the " slit" , but no I have it set for regular seed.Everyone else, thanks but I have heard birds " like" the black oil sunflower seed best and they do like it from what I've seen. I might need a different style feeder. In the winter I can just toss it on the snow and they ground feed alot. For finches, who like thistle, I use one of those sack feeders for those guys, they love that thistle sack
Outdoor Wild Bird Feeder for window?
Our house is near a forest area and there are many wild birds who live in the trees on our front and back yards as well as the vine that grows around our house. We already have several bird feeders in our backyard and we want to add one to the front at the window of the bedroom. What feeder would be best that can clip onto the house near the window so we can sit and watch the birds. We have seen some with suction cups that allow the feeder to be attached to the window but do these actually stay on? Are there any feeder that you can fasten to bricks but that come out far enough so that people can see the birds and enjoy them from the window?
